Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Hazardous Conditions)

Today, Monday January 19, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the hazardous campus conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Updates will be posted on www.acadiau.ca and pre-recorded on Acadia’s Information Line: 902-585-4636 (585-INFO) and on 585 phone system voicemail. EDUC 5183 COIN2

Acquisition of Language (Cross listed with EDUC 4863 COIN2)

Access: This course can be taken as part of the Acadia University TESOL Certificate, or as a stand-alone course. Please visit tesol.acadiau.ca for more information regarding the Certificate.

This course is foundational. The focus is on how language is acquired. There will be a sociological and a psychological analysis of language acquisition. Semantics, syntax, phonology and pragmatics will be explored. Although it may be taken by all interested students, it is primarily designed to be taken with EDUC 5193 and EDUC 5693 which are part of the Acadia TESOL Certificate program, for those who wish to teach English as a second or foreign language.
